Woodson and his staff have more running to do in #Knicks practice today as payback to players. Here's why: #fb
As the coach explained on Friday's "Mike Woodson Show" on MSG Network, the coaching staff set up a challenge with the players to stay under 13 turnovers per game.
Every turnover over 13, the players owe the coaches one "touch" -- a baseline-to-baseline sprint. If they draw a successful offensive charge, one turnover is removed.
If the team finishes under 13, the coaches have to run. And if you saw the show, you know the coaches are not much into running. But the players enjoy watching it.
On Monday, the Knicks recorded just seven turnovers in the win over the 76ers. They also recorded a charge, which meant the coaches had to do seven touches.
Friday against the Mavs, the team had nine turnovers and Jason Kidd drew a charge, which means the coaches owe five touches.
Whether it's the added motivation to make the coaches run or not, the challenge is working. The Knicks are No. 1 in the NBA with just 11.25 turnovers per game.
