Just saw a Romney ad targeting manufacturing job losses. As usual, it's a lie.
I just sat through a terrible ad by Romney's campaign comparing US manufacturing job losses with the growth in China. Not only are those not comparable under any circumstances, but the baic premise is complete hogwash.
According to the BLS http://www.bls.gov/web/empsit/ceshighlights.pdf (see page 9), the economy has gained 512,000 manufacturing jobs since January 2010. Not only that, but a number of companies have announced that they're bringing their manufacturing back from China. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304587704577333482423070376.html
Now, no one expects all jobs to come back from China, but the fact is, jobs have been going to Asian NICs for more than 30 years. It's a lie to claim that President Obama has overseen a massive loss of manufacturing jobs. The latest massive loss in manufacturing jobs happened during the Bush recession. Since then, we're doing better.
