Matt Szczur, the former Villanova football star, had two hits today as he continues a nice Arizona Fall League
season. He has batted leadoff and played center field for the Mesa Solar Sox, hitting .277 with an on-base percentage pushing .390. He's collected five extra-base hits and eight stolen bases in 22 games. Szczur wasn't happy with his 2012, in large part because he hit only .210 in 35 games at Double-A Tennessee. He's headed back there to start next season and the Cubs expect him to be ready this time around. He's head more walks than strikeouts in the Fall League, showing that he's the kind of hitter that Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer are looking for -- guys that "control the strike zone.'' Interesting guy. Keep your eye on him.
