Sandy Alomar Jr. "expects' to rejoin Terry Francona's coaching staff.
Sandy Alomar Jr. didn't get the manager's job with the Cleveland Indians. He guided the team through the last six games of the season as interim manager, but the full-time gig went to Terry Francona.
Francona and GM Chris Antonetti have talked to Alomar about joining Francona's staff. It's believed he'd retain his role as bench coach.
Alomar, a six-time All-Star catcher with the Indians, has one-year left on his contract. He told me in a text message that he expects to return to the Tribe's staff.
The one thing that could stop Alomar from rejoining the Indians is getting a manager's job with another team. Boston and Colorado are looking for managers. Alomar interviewed with the Red Sox last year and he played with the Rockies.
If the Red Sox work a deal for Toronto manager John Farrell, Alomar could be a candidate for the Blue Jays job. He was a finalist there two years ago.
Antonetti and Francona, attending the team's organizational meetings this week in Goodyear, Ariz., plan "dig into' the coaching candidates for Francona's staff over the next two days.
