Gavin Floyd hadn't gone onto the DL in 11 years as a pro. That streak just ended, with him being DL-ed to clear a space for Philip Humber, who starts for the White Sox tonight at Fenway Park. The Sox are calling Floyd's injury elbow tendinitis. Floyd hasn't pitched since July 7. That was his first outing since Robin Ventura pushed him to 122 pitches at Yankee Stadium on July 1 -- a crazy outing in which Floyd walked five and only worked 5 1-3 innings. Ventura has been willing to push his starting pitchers harder than Ozzie Guillen did, and it looks like he overdid it with Floyd. It's too early to know for sure about Floyd but this feels more like a speed bump than big trouble, like the situation with John Danks. The Sox need Humber to pitch well tonight.
