Working to resurrect his career, former Cub Marlon Byrd is tearing up Mexico. He has helped Culiacan claim first
place, hitting .338 with 12 homers and 32 RBIs in 38 games. He was released by the Red Sox last season after being traded from the Cubs to Boston. Byrd had a solid 2011 season, hitting .276 despite an ugly beaning, but batted .210 with the Cubs and Red Sox last season. He's not going to get a guaranteed contract but as 35 should be able to land a chance to try to win a job on someone's bench next year.
