The Cubs were happy for West Coast scout Tim Kissner but unhappy to lose the scout to the Mariners. I wrote
a couple weeks ago that Kissner was hired as the Mariners' director of international operations after not having his contract renewed by the Cubs. I was mistaken, as Kissner had been given a one-year contract with the Cubs as a West Coast supervisor but was given permission to talk to the Mariners. He was offered the job -- a promotion -- and took it, but Kissner had been highly valued by the Cubs. He replaces Bob Engle, a scouting legend, with the Mariners.
