Will Anthony Davis be the franchise centerpiece type player so many expect him to be? Mo Evans isn't so sure.
Since my colleague Mr. Zillgitt did a piece on Evans still trying to get a job while looking ahead to a front-office career (my last retweet), it's as good a time as any to share an anecdote that I found very interesting. When I chatted with Evans about his GM hopes during All-Star weekend in Orlando, I remember him making it very clear that he thought the hype about Davis - the former Kentucky big man who was taken first overall in the draft and was on Team USA's gold-medal winning team in London this summer - was over the top. Evans respects Davis as a player, but expects the learning curve to be much tougher to manage than some have assumed the impact to take some time to come. From a talent evaluation perspective, it made me curious to see if he's onto something there. If he's right, that's a nice little I-told-you-so feather in the cap to have out there. We shall see.
