At least one Eastern Conference executive is not buying that the Brooklyn Nets were shut out by the coaches in
All-Star reserve voting as a statement in support of Avery Johnson, who was named coach of the month in November but fired shortly after Christmas and replaced by assistant coach PJ Carlesimo. "Not even a little bit," said the executive. "If anything, PJ probably has more friends in the league (than Johnson)." Speaking of friends, several in the coaching community have counseled Carlesimo to be a softer, friendlier coach than he has been in the past, believing it would serve him well coming in after Avery's similarly hard-ass style. PJ has long been known as one of the most gregarious and personable guys off the court and outside of practice or games but an absolute tyrant, particularly behind closed gym doors. Those same friends have been encouraged by seeing Carlesimo sitting down and talking casually with various players from Andray Blatche to Deron Williams. Can an old dog, you know...? Stay tuned.
