Obama cuts second ad for Senate/House candidate -- HISEN nominee Mazie Hirono (D). Did TV ad for C. Murphy in CTSEN
"President Barack Obama is giving a late boost to a Democratic Senate candidate in his native state, recording a radio ad for his "ally and friend" Rep. Mazie Hirono.
Hirono is competing against former Republican Gov. Linda Lingle in the race to succeed outgoing Sen. Daniel Akaka. Public polls have shown Hirono comfortably ahead, but Obama's coattails can only help in a state he won by 45 points in 2008.
"Years ago, Mazie worked with my late grandmother. So Mazie isn’t just a reliable partner of mine in Washington; she is part of my ohana at home in Hawaii," Obama says in the ad. "Now, I need Mazie’s cooperative style and commitment to middle-class families in the U.S. Senate."
The Hirono ad is Obama's second commercial for a Democratic Senate candidate, after a TV spot released on Friday for Connecticut Rep. Chris Murphy. Mitt Romney has cut ads for five Senate candidates on the GOP side, most recently Rick Berg of North Dakota.
