Charles Tillman plays in his 2nd straight Pro Bowl Sunday as he seemingly improves with age. Is he due a new deal?
It might be something the team kicks around early this offseason. Tillman, who turns 32 next month, is entering the final year of his contract.
He is due to earn a base salary of $7.95 million in 2013 with a workout bonus of $50,000 making his total cash value and cap number an even $8 million. The Bears could potentially lower that cap number by extending Tillman. The question is what kind of value will the club place on him moving forward and what kind of value does he place on himself? One day, Tillman could make a transition to safety like was talked about several years ago. I don’t think that will happen this coming year or the one after. But if he remains healthy he probably has three or four productive seasons left. It will be interesting to see what unfolds.
