Q&A with #Broncos OC Mike McCoy on Thursday in Denver. He meets with #Bears #Bills #Cardinals #Eagles this weekend.
Q: Excited for chance to interview for head coaching jobs?
MM: It’s an honor to be considered for those jobs. It goes to show the type of players we have here and the organization we have here. As coaches we are all products of the players we have and the other guys we work with. We’ll see what happens.
Q: Is it sort of like a player wanting to start? You want to become a head coach?
MM: Everyone has individual goals as a coach, as a player, but it is team first. We still have a lot left here. Hopefully, one day I will become a head coach. There is still a lot of football left here and we’ll see what happens down the road.
Q: When you are meeting with multiple teams, what do you want to learn from them?
MM: No. 1, when you go into these interviews, you get to know some people. Who are the people that are coming to interview you? You get to express your feelings to them, what your plans would be moving forward for the organization. It’s an open conversation. Just kind of feel one another out and see what direction you go from there.
Q: Do you ask as many questions as they do?
MM: Without a doubt. If you’re going into a new situation, you’ve got to make sure it’s the right one. It’s not about just taking any job. That’s not my goal. You’ve got to make sure when you make the next step with any job you take that it’s the right one. I’ve got plenty of questions to ask. We’ll just keep going on here and see what happens.
Q: Has it been difficult to do homework on these clubs while prepping for the playoffs?
MM: The No. 1 task at hand and the organizations I will sit down with this weekend, they will understand that. So, if there is a question I might not have an answer for, I am going to let them know up front that very honestly my No. 1 priority is to win football games here for the Broncos. I am employed here and I have a job to do.
Q: How much time have you put into preparing?
MM: I can’t put an hour on it. I have done plenty of research in the past, in the offseason, kind of putting my plan together over a number of years. I have been doing it a long time now so I kind of have an idea of the questions and things I want to get answered.
