Kirkpatrick responds to being mentioned in Auburn story
With allegations of academic fraud and recruiting violations surfacing at Auburn, Bengals cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick found himself mentioned in one of the main stories about the case.
In Selena Roberts’ report on roopstigo.com, former Auburn cornerback Mike McNeil said coaches gave him $500 to entertain Kirkpatrick during a 2008 recruiting visit. NCAA regulations allow less than $50 a day to be spent by student-athletes who are being used as recruiters on visiting prospects. Kirkpatrick ended up going to Alabama.
Said Kirkpatrick about his visit to Auburn: "Nobody gave me any money, and nobody spent any money on me that I know of. I don’t know what they would have spent it on. We went to a party, but nobody was paying to get in there. We just walked in like everybody else seemed to be doing.”
