Burfict had modest goals coming into camp
Vontaze Burfict will get the start at one of the outside linebacker spots on Sunday when the Bengals face the Redskins.
When asked Thursday if coming into training camp, Burfict even thought it was possible he would be a starter, he said he didn't think so.
"When I first came in I just wanted to become a good teammate and learn the plays and especially being a Mike backer and having to set the front, know where the blitzes are coming from. I was trying to focus on that. But not starting," Burfict said. "I was just trying to take the backup spot behind Rey (Maualuga) and learn from him this year and next year become a starting linebacker, but my number is called and I've got to be ready."
