Marcus Thompson's post on Golden State Warriors | Latest updates on Sulia
It was all about Curry after the 105-101 win. Here is why he was so animated, plus an update on his right ankle...
With 8:07 left in the fourth quarter, Curry drove to the basket and landed on the foot of Mavericks big man Bernard James. For the next several minutes he was limping noticeably. Warriors fans everywhere couldn't help but think Curry, who missed 40 games last year due to ankle sprains and had off-season surgery, had injured his right ankle again. However ...
JACKSON: "I think that something on the inside told him he had to muster it."
Curry mustered it all right. He totaled 20 points and 4 assists over the next 13 minutes to lead the Warriors to victory. He said after the game his ankle "feels good now" and he "would worry about it tomorrow." Here is what was said about his performance.
KLAY THOMPSON: "He was unbelievable. Unbelievable. Face of the franchise."
DAHNTAY JONES: “He was very aggressive in the fourth quarter. He just kept getting into the paint and making plays and he can score and create shots for others. He really did a good job of keeping the team together in overtime.”
JACKSON: "The thing about it is teams are going to treat him like he’s that guy. We're going to have to set screens, get him open, make life easy for him. Tonight, I thought we did a great job of screening and then he did a great job of coming off aggressive, whether it be to score or to make plays. He ran this team down the stretch the way that I envision him running."
"He was ra-ra. High-fiving. Demanding the basketball. Even dapping me up in the middle of plays. He was our leader. And he is our leader. But tonight, I really believe he took it to a whole different level."
CURRY: "I pretty much have a 10-pound ankle with the brace and the tape, so it helped. It was something you just had to play through."
"Coach put the ball in my hands in the fourth quarter and in overtime to run pick and roll. We thought we had a good opportunity to be aggressive, get in the paint, make plays. That’s what I was trying to do."
"This was an opportunity for us to get a big win. Last night kind of took the wind out of us. Our morale was down a little bit. It was a big game and they came out firing. Tonight we wanted to get a little pep in our step. You could see that from the beginning. Our energy was through the roof. We got out to an early lead and wanted to sustain that. Coach has been telling us about body language and how far that goes in getting everybody on the same page. Focused and execute and locked int o the game. You don’t want to see anybody with their head down."
