After Sunday's loss to Toronto, Kobe Bryant took responsibility for (yet another) debacle, in the locker room
and on Twitter.
"I'll just make it really easy," he said. "just point the finger at me. Let me take all that, and this way we don't have to worry about (who is to blame) as a team. That's part of my responsibility. I'll take the arrows, and we can just focus on doing what we do best, which is playing together and trying to figure out how to out of this ditch... That's the responsibility. I've been through the most. I've been through worse times than (this)."
Later, Bryant tweeted: "This one is on meCouldn't throw the ball in the ocean if I was sitting on a boat. Had plenty of easy looks#noexcuses gotta get my legs back"

He's right, certainly about the latter. Kobe's incredible inefficiency on offense, not just with his shot but also the turnovers (six) were a big reason the Lakers lost. And volunteering to take the blame for what's gone wrong is a solid move.
But a) practically speaking the latter won't make much of a difference (we'll all go on blaming who we want to blame, anyway) and b) the problem isn't really a bunch of guys folding because they're being asked to accept too much responsibility for this debacle of a season.
The habits on the floor aren't changing fast enough, including Kobe's tendency to trust his team less when things get difficult, rather than more. Rather than demand it move and lead by example, he takes more on himself often with bad results. The issue Sunday wasn't simply that he missed easy shots. Yes, a you'd expect to fall, but many were not just difficult, but extremely so. He took too many bad shots at bad times in the clock, from bad spots on the floor.
Before Kobe's Army accuses me of "blaming" the season on Bryant, I'm not. They have a stack of issues, of which this trend is just one. But just as it was Thursday against Miami, when the Lakers couldn't absorb two big misses at the line from Dwight, Sunday they couldn't absorb this type of game from Kobe.
