Dwight Howard: "I think this is going to be the best dunk contests in awhile ..."
Howard won the dunk contest in 2008 and the former champ can't wait to see the slams and jams that happen in Houston during All-Star weekend Saturday.
"I'm just excited to see the dunk contest," Howard said after practice Wednesday. "I think this is going to be the best dunk contests in awhile. James White, who the world hasn't really seen dunk yet, this guy, I've seen him jump from the free throw line off one foot and do a windmill. There's not a lot of people who can do that. So, him and then you got the other guy (rookie Terrence Ross) from Toronto who can jump. So, it's going to be a great dunk contest. That's what I'm looking forward to seeing."
The full dunking field is:
Eric Bledsoe - L.A. Clippers
Jeremy Evans - Utah Jazz (2012 champ)
Kenneth Faried - Denver Nuggets
Gerald Green - Indiana Pacers (2007 champ)
Terrence Ross - Toronto Raptors
James White - New York Knicks
Howard's dunk contest days might be over, but could there be more All-Star game Saturday night festivities in his future?
"Hopefully one year I'll be in the 3-point shootout," Howard said. "I had a dream about it. I think it would be amazing if they could do (fan) votes for the 3-point contest. Then I could put a little 3-point video of me in practice (online) shooting 3s, then I could translate that to All-Star weekend. (In the dream) Larry Bird gave me the trophy because I broke his record. In the last round I had 29 (out of a possible 30). And it was amazing. Actually, in the last round I had stubbed my right thumb when I was going for the ball, so I had to switch hands and shoot left handed on the last rack. It was amazing. Great dream."
Howard said he planned to shoot from the outside in the actual All-Star game on Sunday too.
"If you need a 3, give it to me," said Howard with a loss.
