Kobe made history last night. In a bad way. He's now missed more shots than any player in the NBA. Ever. ...
With his final missed FGA on Tuesday night against HOU (came with 2:27 left in the 4th quarter), Kobe Bryant missed his 15,296th career field goal attempt and passed John Havlicek for the most field goal attempts missed in NBA history if you combine regular season and postseason numbers.
FROM THE ELIAS SPORTS BUREAU:
Most FG Missed
NBA History, Including Postseason
Kobe Bryant 15,296
John Havlicek 15,295
Karl Malone 14,707
Michael Jordan 14,654
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 14,536
As far as regular season only, Kobe is 3rd all-time in misses behind only John Havlicek and Elvin Hayes. Kobe passed Michael Jordan on this list late last regular season in a 3-21 FG game against NOH on March 31, 2012, then passed Kareem and Karl Malone earlier this year. If he keeps up his average of 11.5 misses per game this season, he should move into 2nd place by the end of the year.
FROM THE ELIAS SPORTS BUREAU (FG Pct, eFG pct from Basketball Reference):

Michael Jordan 12,345 49.7 50.9
Also, keep in mind that Kobe already holds the “record” for most missed FGA in NBA playoff history, having passed Jordan during the 2011 postseason. The list here contains all the same names as above except Elvin Hayes.

Kobe Bryant 2,485 44.8 48.0

While it’s not good to miss shots, having missed so many shots means you had the opportunity to take so many, so you were probably a really good player. All of the retired players on these lists are members of the Basketball Hall of Fame, and each of them joins Kobe in the top 12 on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
