Pep Guardiola and Bayern Munich
Pep Guardiola has not agreed nothing with anybody. It is a categorical, “no, not yet” from his camp. But rumours come out every day about where he will coach next. His agent said he will take a decision at the end of January or beginning of February. We are getting there. Yesterday, the latest rumour came from Germany –Pep, according to some stories, has agreed to join Bayern. His camp insist, “no! We are still leaving all the options open”. But Bayern think they have convinced him in a 90 % and some German journalists have been briefed in that direction. There is still a 10 per cent left if that is true I would add.
I hope they realise Pep is not the usual manager. He will think about his decision 100.000 times. And meetings with clubs are taking place (City have not approached him yet officially but will explain to him the project soon) because he wants to know where he stands, what they are offering. My question is, why does he need to decide yet?
Because he needs to start working. He has had enough rest, enough days with nothing to do. He wants to open the computer and prepare next season with his next club. And timing here is crucial. There are only two clubs that can say to him now, go on, start planning, you will be our coach next –Chelsea and Bayern. The rest cannot take a decision yet, there is still lots to play for.
Pep is a romantic and joining Bayern would fulfil many of his dreams. Raul has spoken to him very highly about the Bundesliga and has convinced him it is one of the strongest leagues in the world, one of the most entertaining… and he will probably win League and Cup without much effort if the club give him one or two top players, which they will. So he will start his career in another club winning almost for sure -which is what he wants.
It makes a lot of sense to link Pep with Bayern and his people have spoken to the Bavarian club. But, categorically, no decision has been made yet
