Colorado passes a lot of gun control today... good start...
The Coloradolegislature has approved four gun control bills that will make the state just a little safer. But right now, a little is better than nothing.
Among the bills, which Governor John Hickenlooper has promised to sign, is a ban on magazines that hold more than 15 rounds. In addition, another bill will make gun buyers pay for their own background checks (I like this; is this a precursor to possible licensing in the future?) and a ban on online certification for concealed-carry permits. The fourth bill will bar gun purchases by people convicted of domestic violence crimes. Hickenlooper had previously said he was undecided about that until he could see the final version.
There is a fifth bill out there, that would require background checks for every gun sale. That was sent to conference committee today, so that could be ready for the governor's signature within days.
As one can guess, pretty much no Republicans supported any of the four measures, or the fifth measure, for that matter. House minority leader Mark Waller called Democrats "out of touch" with constituents in a statement he issued after the bills passed.
