Phil Simms said it's "splitting hairs" to define great QBs as "elite" or not. "It makes headlines, but we're ...
... splitting hairs here," Simms said on WFAN's @boomerandcarton show. "I get it asked all the time, ‘Is so-and-so elite?’ And I go ‘Oh my gosh, please, somebody stick a needle in my eye.’ I’m just tired of answering it and hearing it. So I said it. Sorry it’s causing a little firestorm, but that’s the context I said it in. ... I had to answer all these questions in the summer once. So I said, ‘Hey, Eli Manning’s going to the Hall.’ (They said) ‘Oh, you think he’s going to the Hall of Fame already?’ And I go ‘Yeah, he’s the MVP of two Super Bowls. He’s had a tremendous career. He’s going to break tons of records and everything.’ I kind of redefined the way I look at it. I think it’s a fairly good argument. If we had the culture we had now back when we played then they would be killing Dan Marino and John Elway, Jim Kelly and Warren Moon because, ‘Well, they haven’t won the big one. They can’t be special.’"
