I went 0-2 in my picks yesterday; 1-5 in the playoffs so far. So bet against these picks for today's playoff games…
Atlanta Falcons 27, Seattle Seahawks 17 -- Nate Silver, the stat guy who perfectly called the presidential election, predicts the Seahawks will go to the Super Bowl. So do Gil Brandt, my SiriusXM NFL Radio colleague who went 4-0 with his picks in the first round. But I don’t buy it. I know the Falcons bombed in the playoffs each of the last two years, but I think they have too many weapons to do it three years in a row. The Seattle defense has been tremendous and they may have the corners to handle Julio Jones and Roddy White, but when you add in Tony Gonzalez and Michael Turner and so many other secondary weapons, it’s just too much. Plus, the Seahawks are a different team on the road and they’re making their second cross-country trip in the last two weeks. This will be the Falcons’ coming out party and they are ready for the Big Show.
New England Patriots 41, Houston Texans 24 – I like how everyone spends the regular season looking at all the other teams, picking out Super Bowl favorites, and then when it’s all over the Patriots have put together another impressive double-digit-win season. This time they’ve done it by scoring 557 points – 76 more than any other team. Yeah, they give up a lot of passing yards and didn’t look overwhelming for most of the last month of the season. Then again, on Dec. 10 they beat Houston 42-14. Why should this be much different?
