It's early, but Tyson Chandler feels MVP talk should already begin about Carmelo Anthony. Here's why:
"He should be at the top of the race right now," Chandler said. "We're playing the best basketball and it's because of him. He's playing all over the floor on both ends. He should be at the top of the race."
Anthony is fourth in the NBA in scoring (24.2 points per game), leads the NBA in Usage (33.1%) and is 10th in PER (23.5). His 7.4 rebounds per game this season matches a career-best average, which he set in the 2007-08 season with Denver.
But what isn't quantified on the stat sheet is his overall effort on the defensive end, as a vocal leader of the defense, calling out switches and help. According to 82games.com, the 8-1 Knicks are +14 when he's on the court this season and even when he's not. That in itself speaks volumes to his value to the team.
