Tonight Jason Kidd returns to Dallas. He's meant so much to the #Knicks, but what did he mean to Mavs fans?
Dirk Nowitzki already came out and said he hoped Dallas fans would give Kidd an ovation when he is introduced before the game. But are Mavs fans still upset, as Mark Cuban was, for deciding to pass on re-signing for the chance to play in New York?
Mavs coach Rick Carlisle, for one, won't hold it against him.
"Of course we wanted him to retire a Maverick and we wanted him to be here, but he chose to go to New York," Carlisle said. "And got nothing but good wishes from me."
Kidd wasn't too concerned about whether he'd get the same sentiments from the American Airlines Center crowd.
"It's a great place to play," he said of Dallas. "I have great memories, the fans were great to me. We won a championship there and that's what we wanted to achieve. It's something where I had to make a decision. I wasn't a free agent too many times in my career."
The debate about whether his jersey should be retired to the rafters there, which Cuban initially vowed he'd never do, will have to wait until two things happen: 1. Nowitzki's goes up there first and 2. Kidd retires.
The question is, which one will happen first?
