Marcus Camby gave @TinaCervasio an update on his status. Will he be ready for opening night? Read:
“I think it’s getting better," Camby said of his calf strain, which he suffered in the first week of training camp. "[Monday] was the second day in a row I was able to get on the floor and do some things, I was doing a lot of pool work, just trying to get my conditioning up and trying to get my leg strengthened.”
So, with just over a week before the regular season begins, when does he expect to be back on the court and in practice?
“Hopefully I can start doing some things at the latter part of this week," he said. "The training staff [can] wean me into practices, get my legs under me and hopefully I can be ready for opening night.”
The Knicks desperately need Camby to be ready to back up Tyson Chandler at center and also bolster a frontcourt that is without Amar'e Stoudemire for at least the first two weeks of the regular season.
“It’s frustrating because you want to be out there with the guys," Camby said. "And then you hear the news about STAT and I’m just trying to get back as quickly as possible to help the team.”
