A part of Jason Kidd probably regrets not leaving the Nets in '03 to sign with the Spurs when he had the chance.
He could have played with Tim Duncan, for Gregg Popovich and won a couple of titles.
But Kidd, whose Nets lost to the Spurs in the 2003 Finals, got his ring with Dallas two years ago.
He’s been back numerous times before, but he was asked how close he was to signing with San Antonio nine years ago.
“Very,” Kidd said. “Very close. If it wasn’t for thinking that I could win a championship in Jersey I would have came here. But I thought we had a chance to still win and be competitive. It just didn’t work out that way.”
The Nets ultimately broke up the team that lost in six games to San Antonio. Kidd requested a trade in 2008 and was sent to his team of choice the Mavericks.
Asked what he remembers after losing Game 6 in San Antonio, Kidd said, “That’s too long ago. I know we lost. We had a great opportunity, but we fell short.”
