Giants WR Hakeem Nicks on why he didn't play vs. Panthers and playing vs. Eagles this week:
Q: Where did you watch the Carolina game?
A: At home. I watched it at the house.
Q: Was it difficult?
A: I ain’t going to say it was difficult, but it’s just the decision that we had to make. We had to be smart. It’s still early in the season. It was just too quick of a turnaround. Coaches and the team trainers and the doctor decided go ahead and sit this one out, so that’s what I had to do.
Q: If the game was yesterday, do you think you would’ve played?
A: Yeah, I think if it was a regular Sunday and it was a normal week, I think I would’ve been able to go out there and compete.
Q: It wasn’t a setback?
A: I don’t think it was a setback. I think it was more of a cautious situation where it was just too quick of a turnaround on the foot, all that pounding on the foot that I did that last game.
Q: So you do anticipate playing in Philadelphia on Sunday night?
A: Yeah, I definitely anticipate playing.
Q: How close were you?
A: I was close enough to make the decision that day. Coaches, they decided that day and let me know about it, so it was just a cautious reason. We went into it, it was just too quick of a turnaround.
Q: You were on the field Wednesday?
A: Yeah, I did some running on Wednesday.
Q: It didn’t feel great?
A: Right, it didn’t feel great, but it wasn’t too bad. I had to look at the situation and I knew we had another big game coming up with Philly, so when they told me, I just took it in stride, pull up the positive aspect about it. I’ll be ready to go for Philly.
Q: Was it tough to not play at Carolina?
A: Definitely. I wanted to play in front of the home crowd. I originally had a lot of family going there to watch me play, but it happened the way it did.
Everything happened for a reason. Just got to get back
out there and look forward to this week?
