In Jeff Karstens' last full start Aug. 25, he pitched seven scoreless innings and, at the time, was the Pirates' hottest in the rotation. Since then, he hasn't started, even though he's been back and fully healthy. Told he so himself Tuesday, with great gusto. Why is that? If the team wants to "see younger guys," is that a white flag? If the team is ... nah, not even going to touch the arbitration issue. But the fact remains that one of this team's steadiest performers is sitting idly right now.
