Kevin Johnson deems Sacramento's arena deal, vetted by NBA, a competitive advantage in effort to keep #SacKings:
Does the mayor think Sacramento & Seattle are essentially on the same track as far as their arena projects are concerned?
"Absolutely not. Our deal was approved a year ago, No. 1. So that’s one year right there. No. 2, we in our community don’t have lawsuits coming at us and other challenges. And again, I’m not - this has nothing to do with Seattle from my vantage point - but I feel the fact that we have land that we control is another important (point). We have two sites that we’re considering where they’re both controlled either by the city or private.
Those are very, very critical components to be able to have a competitive advantage. We have that. We have the site locked up and under control. We have the dollars identified and we have it in a very, what we think, a strategic place in our downtown area - whether it be at the railyards site or whether it be at downtown plaza. So again, knowing that the NBA has approved this already, that (it) is already been approved a year ago at All-Star game in Orlando. Those are competitive advantages that are real for Sacramento and those are essentially facts that you can’t dispute."
