two sides surely will be negotiating on several tracks at once. They'll be talking about parameters for, say, a three-year deal that buys out arbitration, a different mid-range deal that cuts into free-agency and the so-called "megadeal" that locks Posey into San Francisco for a decade. That's standard practice. Both sides then will have to decide what their true goals are, and then find common ground to reach them.
