As we get closer to the Dec. 6 Rule 5 draft I'll write a blog explaining
it in-depth for the uninitiated. One thing to know right now. Teams very rarely score big in the Rule 5 because front offices have a good sense on whom to protect and not protect. There have been two notable blunders in that regard. The worst was committed by the Brooklyn Dodgers, who failed to protect Roberto Clemente in 1954 (Pirates took him). In 1980, Phillies did not protect George Bell (Jays took him).
