#Cardinals vet ace Chris Carpenter talks about being on the "long" program and having "a ways" to go on return ...
Cardinals veteran Chris Carpenter completed a 20- or 25-pitch session against hitters this afternoon at Busch Stadium. It was another step in his steady attempt to return from shoulder/hip trouble. It does not put him on the brink of a rehab assignment.
"I still have a ways to go," Carpenter said. "They’re going to put me through the longer course of my throws and simulateds and all that stuff before they send me out. They want to make sure that I recovery. And that’s to be expected. That’s understood. We’ve got to make sure when this happen or if this happens that the decision is the right one for the ball club and for my health and that I’m able to recover and that we’re going to be concerned down the road two weeks, three weeks after they bring me back.
"I’ve been very patient as we go along," he said. "This process – it was going to come with patience. It has to. Because this is a process we can’t rush."
