Been asked alot if I think #Bucs will start 2nd rd pick Johnthan Banks. Here's why I think he'll be the nickel back
Banks isn't in a situation where he needs to be pressed immediately into a starting role. With the Bucs restructuring Eric Wright's contract for one more year, they know they have a veteran to play across from Darrelle Revis. This allows them to break Banks in slowly, which is always preferable at any position.
Here's another important aspect: The nickel corner, in today's pass-heavy NFL, is practically a starter anyway. As the third cornerback, they play roughly 60 percent of snaps, and that's plenty for a rookie at a difficult position.
Banks might ultimately win the job, but I think his play would have to be superb, forcing the Bucs to make such a decision.
As things stand now, Banks is in a good spot, playing behind two veterans, including one possible Hall of Famer (Revis).
