"We’re losing two friends, two young men, Jose’s been the spirit of the program, but it’s a business. I explained that when I talked to them. Spent a lot of time working with Ed this summer and he improved to where he is. The wagon moves on. We’re getting an excellent player in Rudy Gay and we’re excited about that.
Transtion. I don’t think so. We’re going to play the same way, have the same sets, we can’t change mid-stream. We may tweak some things a little bit to accommodate Rudy, but we can’t change everything. We’re still going to be the same basketball team on the offensive and defensive end."
"He’s a potential all-star. Every year he’s got that status where he can be an all-star, he just never gets put into an all-star game. Guy can create his own shot, high flyer, he’s a big shot guy. Big shot taker and he’s a big shot maker.
For DeMar and Rudy, those guys are going to make my job easier. He plays hard. He’s a talent. He’s a guy your team can adapt around him. He’ll adapt to our team concept and how hard we play.
It’s tough losing Jose and Ed. I was with them a short time, but we all grew strong bonds. It’s definitely tough to see them go, but for me having Rudy coming in it’s really, my brother. We hang out together in the summer, we live together in the summer, we do everything pretty much together. It’s really tremendous for me. I talked tohim all day today. After shootaround, I talked to him all day. He’s excited, he’s looking forward to the opportunity. He definitely knows the situation, he knows how people are going to be looking at him to becoming that player and I think he’s going to prove it. He’s going to be able to be the all-star that he should always be."
