If you like your pitchers under the radar, Yoennis Negrin is the Cub for you. He's pitching very well in Venezuela
at this time but in North America we can't even agree how to spell his first name. It's listed at Yoenner some places and Yoennis others. He was included in Oneri Fleita's roundup of Cuban free agents during 2011 and was loaned to the Mexican League for much of last season. He's been scored on in only three of his five starts for Caracas, most recently working six scoreless inning on Friday. He's got a 1.99 ERA over 22 2-3 innings, with 21 strikeouts against only six walks. Negrin is listed at 28. He's in the right organization to get a look at some point in the relatively near future, as the Cubs have at least two and possibly three openings in their big-league rotation. Mexican League and winter-ball stats often don't translate onto the big stage but Negrin is pitching well enough to force himself into the picture, and that cannot be a bad thing.
