Warriors fans, Dominic McGuire is not coming through that door. And guess who you should blame? GSW did not sign...
McGuire, the defensive specialist who became a fan favorite with the Warriors last season, because he would probably end up taking minutes from Draymond Green, a source said.
The Warriors let McGuire walk this summer largely because they believed Green could bring what McGuire did, plus more rebounding. But while it is clear Golden State could use someone with the athleticism and defensive acumen of Green, it's not worth taking away from the development of the Warriors young small forward.
So the Warriors opted to fill their whole at third string power forward -- hence the signing of Malcolm Thomas from the D-League. Golden State doesn't have a legitimate PF behind David Lee and Carl Landry, so Thomas is an insurance policy.
Make no mistake, this is Mark Jackson's call. Management gave Jackson (who coached McGuire last season) veto power since he will have to blend in whoever they sign. And he is not a fan of McGuire taking minutes away from his rookie.
The Warriors could still sign McGuire, who is a free agent. He was not on a roster by the playoff eligibility deadline, So Golden State can sign him at any point and he'd be available for the playoffs.
