My somewhat odd post-game chat with Mike Wallace ... READ MORE
As soon as reporters entered the locker room, Wallace was fully dressed with headphones on and headed for the exit. He was the first healthy player to bolt, near as I could tell, and he did not seem to be in a pleasant mood. Now, there could be a million reasons for that, but here's my brief post-game chat with him:
Me: "From the start today, it looked you were a big part of the game plan, made a lot of catches."
Wallace: "I don't know about that. I made a couple of catches and got us a couple of first downs. It's always good to get first downs."
Me: "You don't think you were a big part of the game plan?"
Wallace: "I don't know. I don't know. I had a couple of catches."
Me: "Actually, you were targeted a lot and seemed like you bounced back from last week. Did you feel you had anything to bounce back from?"
Wallace: "Ahh, not really. I mean, I play week-in and week-out with everything I got, so I don't really need to bounce back from nothing. I just need to go out and play football."
And off he went.
What to make of it? I'm not sure. Wallace was targeted a team-high 9 times and made a team-best 7 catches, albeit for only 62 yards and a long of just 14 yards. He didn't go deep -- perhaps he'd like to more often -- but I thought he rebounded nicely from Cinci and played a good, tough game.
