Total cost of iPhone 5 ownership over two years: T-Mobile < Sprint < AT&T < Verizon Wireless
T-Mobile announced today that it will sell the iPhone 5 starting April 12: $99.99 upfront, plus $20 a month for 24 months. How does that compare to its larger rivals' deals?
AT&T: $199.99 for the phone + $89.99/month service = $2,359.75
Sprint: $199.99 for the phone + $79.99/month service = $2,119.75
T-Mobile: $99.99 for the phone upfront + $60/month service + $20/month to pay off the phone = $2,019.99
Verizon Wireless: $199.99 for the phone + $100/month service = $2,599.99
I assume one subscriber who texts reasonably often and uses more than 1 GB and less than 2 GB of data but doesn't care about tethering. And I don't factor in coverage--which, depending on your location, could make this whole exercise moot.
