Bounce Imaging's Explorer: a camera- and sensor-stuffed sphere you can throw into dangerous places.
The camera-studded ball you see above is a prototype of Bounce Imaging's Explorer--a small cybernetic sphere designed to let first responders inspect places they may fear to tread (http://bounceimaging.com).
The idea is that you pair it with a phone, then throw it into the hazardous space. LEDs around each camera provide light as it takes a monochrome photo every half-second and sends them back to your device. It could also be equipped to sense hazards like carbon monoxide or record audio.
The target price for police use is under $1,000 next year, although a military-use model--no, not with explosives inside--would cost more. It certainly seems neat. Bonus: It looks like an Imperial interrogation droid from Star Wars (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/IT-O_Interrogator).
