CES press conferences as performance art, or maybe I haven't spent today as wisely as I could
As a journalistic endeavor, the typical CES press conference may not have much to recommend itself. You wait on a frighteningly long line, then sit through a carefully scripted presentation--often with few actual demonstrations of the products involved--that ends with no time for questions from the audience.
As a fellow CES scribe observed, an event like this is more of a lecture than anything. It helps to get a high-level view of a company's priorities and maybe pick up an unintentionally amusing quote... but maybe that's just me trying to justify the time spent on them today.
