Possible sign of hope for the future of humanity: SXSW WiFi actually works. (I hope saying so doesn't jinx it.)
I'm posting this over the free WiFi at a tech conference. That's more remarkable than it might seem: In my experience, the WiFi at tech events is a cruel joke.
But so far at SXSW, save 20 minutes yesterday when the system wouldn't assign an IP address, the "SXSW2013" network has been humming along. Even in crowded settings like Tim Berners-Lee's keynote, it's been more than usable; in less-packed places, the bandwidth is off the charts. As in, past 31 Mbps in the Sheraton: http://www.speedtest.net/result/2564101383.png
If I don't wake up to find this has been a dream, I want to talk to the people who made this possible so that I can share their secrets with the world. And do my part to ensure they don't have to pay for a drink all week.
