The Giants' free agency philosophy: Find role players and avoid "salary cap jail."
"You can always get good players in free agency who are not big-money players, who are role players who come in and become very valuable parts of your team," John Mara said yesterday. "The good teams over the years have been able to do that. New England has done a great job over the years at that, so has Pittsburgh. We've done it. That to me is just as important a part of free agency as signing big name guys because you can fill certain needs without spending a lot of money and without putting yourself in salary cap jail."
